Caretakers Club
Starting August 26th 2026, Setpoint will be running our bi-weekly Caretakers Club!
Caretakers Club is our new neighbourhood learning project based at the Soanes Centre. Through both peer-led sessions and workshops led by invited guests & collaborators, we will meeting regularly (usually on a Wednesday) to think through gathering, discussion and making. We are imagining what a community space looks like if it makes the ‘invisible’ work visible, and invites its neighbours and users to be part of building a shared future.
The initiative is run by Setpoint, an education charity that has been stewarding the Soanes Centre since 1997. Our mission is to help young people and their communities learn about and through the environment around them, through ecology, science, design, technology and art. The Caretakers Club is brand new, and we'd love to hear from you! Some projects and happenings we have on our list are:

Practical making workshops with invited designers, contributing to our caretaking of the Soanes Centre

Community meals and social gathering.

Discursive gatherings, thinking together about issues facing Tower Hamlets, and what community education, ecology and design can do about it.

Family events and activities.

In the spirit of DIY, no previous skills or experience needed for any of our activities. All age groups are welcome!

Setpoint at the Soanes Centre
For those of you who don't know us, Setpoint is an educational charity that have been stewarding the Soanes Centre since 1997. We provide science, nature and ecology workshops for over 7500 children in the borough from over 60 local schools, and have been doing so for nearly three decades.
As our charity and community networks have developed over the years, we’ve also programmed local and neighbourhood events and projects, including our recent participation in the Whitechapel Gallery's Backyard Biennial: East where we hosted our full day of workshops & gatherings around the theme of Digging.
Caretakers Club is our newest programme designed to bring community members, volunteers and various organisations together to help us with slowly but surely pour more of love into the space and repair some bits and bobs through these practical craft and making upskilling sessions.
