About Setpoint

Setpoint is an outdoor education charity which has operated from the Soanes Centre, an ecological field centre and community centre in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, since 1997. We work with local schools and groups to run environmental education programmes that connect our community with the natural world and processes of change through science, art and gathering. At the core of our work is a programme of workshops with local schools serving more than 8000 school children each year.

About the Role:

We are recruiting for a key role at a pivotal moment for Setpoint. The successful candidate will play a central role in strengthening day-to-day systems while helping to shape Setpoint’s next phase of development. We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and has a genuine enthusiasm for organisational development and community building.

In the first 3-6 months, the focus will be on:

  • Supporting core operations at the Soanes Centre

  • Improving organisational systems and processes

  • Refreshing our external communications ahead of a summer of exciting public programming and events.

In the longer-term, the role will:

  • Continue maintaining core operations

  • Support our trustees with strategic planning and development

  • Building and sustaining strong relationships with the local community.

The role would suit someone who is proactive, organised and comfortable working in a small, evolving organisation.

We are a Black and global majority-led organisation who are deeply rooted in our local community. An awareness of the intersections of environmental and social justice is important to us; we see this role as both practical and foundational, supporting our organisation’s daily function while supporting the culture and values behind our outward-facing work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building Operations: Oversee day-to-day operations of the Soanes Centre, and support on building management in collaboration with our Head of Education.

  • Office Management: maintaining organisational systems, policies and records; managing shared inboxes and key communications; working with our bookkeeper on financial administration and grant reporting; strengthen internal reporting processes to generate information for future funding applications.

  • Communications and Community Management: coordinating an update of Setpoint’s website and other external communications; manage relationships with schools, partners and other park stakeholders; represent Setpoint at community meetings and in other local networks.

  • Strategy and Governance: support trustees with organisational and strategic planning; attend and take notes at quarterly trustee meetings, provide regular updates to the Chair and the Board, gather information to inform programme development.

  • Team and Culture: contribute to upholding a positive, inclusive, and collaborative working environment; organise occasional training or team development sessions.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Organised and able to manage multiple priorities independently.

  • Experience supporting operations, administration or project coordination.

  • Understanding of basic financial processes (e.g. budgeting, reporting).

  • Clear and confident communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Able to build positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders and work collaboratively.

  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Desireable

  • Experience working in a small charity or community organisation.

  • Experience with communications or digital systems.

  • Familiarity with UK charity structures and legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrable interest in environmental education, community work, or social justice.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience (professional or equivalent).
