These very popular workshops are ideal for year 5 classes but year 6 classes also enjoy them. During these 1 1/2 to 2 hour workshops, children are taken through the design process by exploring the possibility that ‘balloon power’may provide the motive power for cars when we have run out of oil. All children then make their own balloon buggy which they can keep and, in the process, improve their making skills. In the final discussion, almost all classes conclude that ‘balloon power’ is not the way of the future. They nevertheless admit to having enjoyed the workshop. All the school needs to provide is a suitable hall and the children. Adult helpers are also useful as hot glue guns are used in making the buggies.
