SOIL AND SOILMAKERS

Pupils investigate soil and the animals, plants, fungi and micro-organisms involved in the natural process of decay and soil production. They use hands-on investigation of different soil types to discover what soil is made of and then explore the park in search of soilmakers.

 

CURRICULUM LINKS:
• Rocks - Compare and group together different kind of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties.

• Rocks - Recognise that soil is made from rocks and organic matter.

All year round

 

OTHER COMMENTS:
We do not do any microscope work in this workshop. This workshop can be combined with the workshop.
“Rocks and weathering” as an all-day workshop (with a picnic lunch break).
